Tiger report: Baker Lake

Grrr!

On Saturday, I rode to Baker Lake on the east side of Mt. Baker.
Edge of road- straight down 30 feet into lake.

I am getting pretty used to the Washington language, but some words are still hard to read. (There were tons of huge fallen trees blocking this road- hard to imagine the effort needed to keep all these roads open. Every winter brings down thousands of trees, washouts, etc.)

The lake was created by a building a dam. There are hundreds of stumps from trees that were cut down before it was built. Some of these stumps were about 7-8' in diameter.

Water is really low at this time of year.

When in the mountains, there is always a Japanese dude to snap your pic.

Kids Pics and Courtneys Birthday (4)

We were going to try to do a little hiking today, but Courtney and Nikki were sick so I had to head out by myself- so you get more bike pics (hey, that's what I do). My goal was to find some good fall colors and some snow. I really didn't find much color change- all evergreens high up, and in the lower elevations they haven't changed yet. Most of the early snow has melted, but above 5000 feet there is still snow. I learned this- it is very, very hard to drive a bike in snow (obviously, right?). Good thing I have long legs or I would have dumped it a couple times (I didn't). I found some new roads today too, but had to head back down because all of the water was starting to freeze on the trail. At least I have something to look forward to exploring next summer. Calvin and I want to do some sort of trip next summer, probably Vancouver Island (3 days, 2 nights?). So anywho, I don't think I will be able to keep up my current pace of blogging with summer over now, but I will try. Cheers.

Tried to match up photo from first bike trip. I can tell I have become a better rider and more used to the bike in the past 2 months. It was a lot more enjoyable this time around. I also lowerd my pegs a little and raised my bars so I can stand in the rough stuff.

Driving around the county for work, I have seen a lot of nice sunrises. This morning I took the camera with me to try to share with you, and I think I picked a pretty good morning. It was foggy and pretty cold (it was about 33 degrees driving my bike to work this morning). These are all taken just west of town.
